Thomson Holidays (TUI-UK Ltd.), part of the TUI group, is the biggest travel company in the UK.
Thomson Holidays publishes over 250 travel brochures, which are used as a sales tool,
in the high street stores they own. Each brochure consists of a number of images,
and text (or copy), which describe the holiday locations, and accommodation.
They also have many websites, which require regular data feeds to keep up to date with the latest hotel details.
Each brochure must go through a complex authoring procedure, and all of these brochures must be maintained and kept up to date.
This process can be very high maintenance. Changes to the master brochures must be reflected in the seasonal brochures.
The Content, Publishing and Legal departments need to have access to the very latest information and include this in the finalised brochure editions.
Also, the Thomson resort staff need to be able to view the data and propose changes against it when the hotel or resort details change.
The Solution
We were engaged in providing a content management system, to meet Thomson's requirements.
Application Features:
Internet enabled application, delivered to over 500 users with just a browser.
Changes to the brochure can be made locally, but are stored centrally.
All changes are logged (audited), and date and time stamped. The audit trails can be viewed using reports.
A user group and permissions system allows users to make changes based on authority and responsibility levels.
Multi-lingual support will allow the application to be used at holiday resorts all over the world.
The application enables all Thomson holiday resort staff to make proposals against text (copy) or images for the brochures.
Creation of new brochures, editing and exporting of those brochures to third party software for final brochure production.
Management of many aspects such as: Seasonal Master Brochures, Brochures, Users & Groups, Help, Reports, Brochure Archive & Deletion and much more.
Search facility for finding specific accommodation or location details.
Application Benefits
The new application has dramatically simplified the brochure production procedure, for many of the departments such as Content, Publishing, Legal and others,
and enabled Thomson to save both time and money.
Because the application is presented in a browser, Thomson holiday representatives in locations all around the world are now able to propose changes to the brochure content, online.
The content management system has simplified the maintenance of the Thomson websites. Most of the copy and images for the websites, are now provided directly from the application database.
